Resources Most of the materials can be found at places like Home Depot, Lowes, Menards. A good hardware store that has "everything" is an excellent source for a lot more hardware choices. If you want to take the project to the next level I would suggest woodworking stores like Rockler's www.rockler.com or Woodcraft Supply Corp. at www.woodcraft.com/
Just bring the materials list with you when you go shopping and you'll save a lot of time. More photos of the easel.

| Tips You can streamline the process and save a lot of time if you BUY EVERYTHING YOU NEED FIRST. Don't spare the glue when you are assembling, and take a little extra time - measure twice, cut once, and you'll have NO PROBLEMS! By putting a finish coat of a satin varnish (or polyurethane or latex paint) on the easel when your finished, it will preserve and protect it, BUT, if you PUT 3 COATS ON, it give it a professional look and be easier to keep clean. |

More Tips You can customize your easel as much as you want after it is built by giving it your own creative paint job OR leave a natural wood finish OR stain the wood OR paint a painting right on the front of the lid. You could make it like a NASCAR logo filled racecar or gold leaf it. You could put your signature on it or your Plein air club logo or a quote from a famous artist, like yourself! I've painted the entire inside of my easels with a neutral grey so it doesn't distract while painting or mixing colors. |

| Equipment Tips To use the plein air easel in the field you will need to purchase a camera tripod. I recommend that you get a sturdy one with a solid mount (where the easel connects). You can find used/new ones on EBay, at some camera shops, the classifieds, or ask people you know if they have any laying around they would sell. A good backpack that the easel fits into and has room for other supplies can be found the same way. |
